Our studio is immersed in a vibrant practice of architectural design.

We speak from the heart and inspire trust, devoting a great deal of energy toward keeping ideas fresh and flowing as we endeavor toward design excellence.

Our goal for everyone involved is the deep sense of fulfillment derived from the process of bringing a project to life.

Our design process is intuitive, optimistic, rigorous, iterative, collaborative and intensely creative– and intimately connected to our clients’ experience of the process and their completed project.

Signs of process are visible on every surface of our office–trace sketches, hand-built project models, material sample groupings–providing us and our clients numerous ways of accessing our ideas, satiating their curiosity of mind and envisioning the end result.

Our agile mind-set offers opportunity for invention and the discovery of new approaches, relative to each project’s challenges and opportunities. As the organizer and leader of the process we are valued listeners, with a heightened awareness of the big picture as well as for the finest details of implementation.

We classify our design language as expressive, spatial architecture, crafting site-specific solutions that employ light, natural materials, color and texture with the highest level of design integrity.

Principal, AIA
Registered Architect: California

Ana radiates a visceral passion for architecture. Inspired by her Colombian homeland, her design vision is in tune with the colors and textures of life. Her practice is based on developing close bonds with her community of clients and colleagues, and is dedicated to choosing work that feeds the soul. She believes in life-long learning to improve her craft.

Her professional standards, love of modern design and thorough understanding of and respect for the classical tradition are rooted in her professional provenance. Ana gained her first exposure to architecture from her uncle Vicente Nasi, an Italian-born architect who established a successful practice in South America and was a contemporary of Le Corbusier. After university, she worked with internationally influential architects Alvaro Siza Vieira in Porto, Portugal (1992 Pritzker Laureate), and Michael Graves Architect in Princeton, New Jersey (2001 AIA Gold Medal).

Ana earned her Masters Degree in Architecture at Princeton University, and her Bachelor of Design from the University of Florida.

Kimberly excels at helping clients visualize their aspirations and is especially interested in the aesthetic and tactile selections of appropriate materials. Her experience includes multi-family residential and civic projects, but her heart lies in the creative opportunities that arise when designing custom, single-family residences.

Kimberly is a native of the Bay Area and alumni of UC Berkeley where she received her Bachelors of Art in Architecture. Previous to AWA she worked with Banta & Associates, Steinberg Architects and Moller Architecture. She loves travel, whether trekking in Peru to visit architectural and archaeological sites such as Machu Pichu or site-seeing in Europe.

Ben joined AWA in 2011, after receiving his Masters degree in Architecture from Tulane University and moving to the west coast.

Ben had an unorthodox start to his architectural career when he was forced to evacuate from New Orleans on his move-in day at Tulane University, in order to avoid the destructive path of Hurricane Katrina. A few months later, Ben returned to Tulane with the unique opportunity to take part in the rebuilding efforts of New Orleans.

His experiences working with those most affected by the destruction of Katrina played a huge role in shaping his understanding of architecture’s role and impact within a community.

Outside of work, Ben can be found on the tennis courts, at the beach or hiking.

Joe is constantly seeking to deepen his knowledge about architecture and building, bringing an inquisitive spirit and fresh expertise to our daily work-life at AWA. He is studied in compact housing and acts as a resource to clients who want to do more with less.

A native of the Northeast, Joe has a natural inclination for the arts and has been inspired by a desire to create from an early age. He graduated in 2012 from Roger Williams University’s School of Art, Architecture, and Preservation with a Bachelors of Science and a Master’s Degree in Architecture.

Joe chose Northern California in which to pursue his career for the freedom and flexibility he finds in exploring new design approaches, the varied opportunities for continuing education, and access to the extracurricular activities that he loves. Outside of the office, Joe can be found hiking, skiiing, fly-fishing, or just plain walking his dog.

Using visual language as a tool to create space and convey meaning, she explores the myriad possibilities for constructing each space, and collaborates to find solutions that best fulfill the client’s wishes.

Reiko joined AWA in 2016, bringing several years of experience in single-family and high-end residential projects, as well as with commercial work. She earned her Masters of Architecture from UC Berkeley, and Bachelor of Arts from University of Maryland, Baltimore County. In her spare time, Reiko enjoys camping and rolling up her sleeves to cook a tasty dish for her family.
